CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies): After you accept an offer from a UK university, the institution will issue you a CAS statement. This document is required for the visa application and confirms your acceptance and course details.
2.Determine Eligibility and Visa Type
Most international students apply for a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa for courses longer than 6 months or a Short-Term Study Visa for shorter courses.
You’ll need to meet eligibility criteria such as proving financial capability, proficiency in English, and a genuine intention to study.
3.Prepare Required Documents
Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival.
CAS Number: Provided by the UK university.
Financial Evidence: Proof you can cover tuition and living expenses (usually 28 days of bank statements showing the required funds).
Proof of English Language Proficiency: For example, IELTS or TOEFL scores if applicable.
Tuberculosis Test Results: Required for students from certain countries.
4.Complete the Online Application
Complete the application through the UK Visas and Immigration website.
Pay Visa Fees: The fee for a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa is usually around £363, plus a healthcare surcharge for NHS services.
5.Book an Appointment for Biometrics and Interview (if required)
Attend a visa application center to submit your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
Some applicants may be required to attend an interview, especially if the UK government needs further clarification of your intentions.
6.Wait for Decision and Collect Visa
After submission, it usually takes around 3 weeks for a decision, though times can vary.
If approved, you’ll receive a visa vignette in your passport for entry, and you’ll collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) in the UK within 10 days of arrival.
7.Arrival and Registering in the UK
Register with the police if required (check the visa instructions).
Attend any orientation or registration activities at your university.
Tips:
Apply at least three months before your course start date.
Keep copies of all submitted documents.
Follow up on any specific requirements from your university, as they might help with the process.
